Daughters of the American Revolution history collection, ca. 1904-1918.

The collection consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence (mostly involving Topeka chapter registrar Zu Adams), application forms, volumes of Kansas war service records for World War I, family genealogies and historical sketches, and other miscellaneous materials. Most of the papers come from the Topeka chapter of the DAR, but there are also histories of Dickinson and Harvey Counties, some materials from the Mission Hills chapter, and information from Anna Burt Sprinkler, a member of the Newton chapter. The war service records were filled in for individuals who served military or non-military service and were related to members of the DAR. Information provided includes name, DAR (and SAR, or Sons of American Revolution) information, education and occupation, details regarding record of service, and other details, including room for additional remarks.

Adams, Zu, 1859-1911.

Librarian, historian, genealogist; of Topeka, Kan. Zu, short for Abzuga, was the eldest daughter of Franklin G. and Harriet Clark Adams. She served as her father's unpaid assistant when he became the secretary of the new Kansas State Historical Society (Topeka). When she began receiving a salary she also got the title of librarian. She served in this capacity until her death in 1911. She never married but had one adopted daughter. From the description of Zu A...
